Notes
Luke 11:13 NKJV
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
JOHN 14:16–17 (AMP)
16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby, to be with you forever—
17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive and take to its heart because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit remains with you continually and will be in you.
Comforter – the Greek word parakletos
my favorite translation of the word “Comforter”
“coach,” because it conveys the meaning of the Greek word parakletos so well.
So what exactly does a coach do? Let’s look at few common examples:
Different types of coaches
- A baseball coach
teaches you how to swing that bat and hit the ball. He shows you how to run from base to base and how to use your glove to catch the ball. He says, “Hold the bat at the base with your hands wrapped around it like this.
- An acting coach
teaches you how to become an actor. He will coach you on how to become more convincing, more dramatic, or more comical,
- A vocal coach
will teach you how to sing, how to make your breath last longer, how to push air from your diaphragm, how to make a sound stronger, how to sing on key, and to how to sing in a way that truly represents the emotional content of the music.
You Have The Advantage
John 16:7 NKJV
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
If you have an advantage you can win in every arena of life!
“You were born to be a player. You were meant to be here at this time. This moment is yours, so go out and take it.”
Herb Brooks
Life Coach
John 10:10 NKJV
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
“The role of the coach is to get ability and capacity to meet!”
Branch Rickey
(Manager of the New York Yankees)
“Our chef want in life is someone who will inspire us to be who we know we could be.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
“A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, who has you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known you could be.”
Tom Landry
“There’s no I in team, But there is an I in win.”
Nick Saban
Ephesians 2:1 Message
It wasn’t so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience…
Don’t let the world be your coach!
1 John 2:27 NLT
27 But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.
Ask
James 4:2 NLT
You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
