Notes
“I believe that one of the next great moves of God is going to be through the believers in the workplace.”
—Billy Graham
Luke 5:4–11 NLT
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where
it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t
catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” 6 And this
time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! 7 A shout for help
brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled
with fish and on the verge of sinking.
8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees
before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful
man.” 9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught,
as were the others with him. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons
of Zebedee, were also amazed.
Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing
for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and
followed Jesus.
1. We Are Christians
They will know we are Christians by our love.
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Matthew 16:24-25 NLT
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower,
you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow
me. 25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up
your life for my sake, you will save it.
Matthew 16:25 NLT
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your
life for my sake, you will save it.
2. We Are Fishermen
Matthew 4:19 NLT
Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how
to fish for people!”
Mark 16:17–18 NKJV
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will
cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take
up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt
them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Our prayer is that Covenant Life would be intentional about Fishing for
people.
3. Listen Intentionally
Three Phrases to listen for:
These may indicate that a person is open to allowing God to come in
and Chang their live:
The Three Nots:
– I’m not in church.
– Things are NOT going well.
– I was NOT ready for that.
If you hear any one of those “Nots”, follow it with “Well, you should
come to church with me this weekend.”
