Ressurection Sunday
1. Cursed
Galatians 3:13–14 NKJV
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a
curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a
tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles
in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through
faith.
Worse than the pain of the cross was the shame of the cross.
1 Corinthians 1:18–19 NKJV
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Crucifixion was a Curse
Deuteronomy 21:22–23 NKJV
If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to
death, and you hang him on a tree, 23…. for he who is hanged is
accursed of God.
In sum, Jesus died not only for the guilt of our sins, but also for the
shame of our sins.
Redeem – Greek
Verb
1. to compensate for the faults or bad aspects of something.
2. Gain or regain possession of something in exchange for payment.
3. To fulfill or carry out a pledge or a promise.
Isaiah 53:5–7 NKJV
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
You see here the great exchange, His life for our life!
You and I deserved this punishment, but Jesus took the penalty of our
sin.
Why? Love!
John 3:16–17 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
We Have Won
This is a great day of celebration, this is a great day of liberation this is
a great day of victory! The battle has been one we are free
Colossians 2:14–15 NKJV
having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us,
which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having
nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers,
He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
1 Corinthians 15:57 NKJV
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus
Christ.
The resurrection tells the Christian that the sin of your past doesn’t
define your future.
Romans 5:17
For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much
more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of
righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
Since it only took one man to lose it all
It only took one man to get it back
