Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Wonderful Counselor,
The Hebrew name “Wonderful Counselor” is one part of a fourfold prophetic name of Jesus, the Messiah.
1. WONDERFUL
Wonderful – The Hebrew word is Pele
wonderful or marvelous It refers to something supernatural something that exceeds expectations. Something miraculous. indicates “a phenomenon lying outside the realm of human explanation; that which is separated from the normal course of events.”
Exodus 15:1–2 NKJV
Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! 2 The Lord is my strength and song,
Exodus 15:11 NKJV
Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? (Pele)
This Hebrew word pele’ (wonderful) is used in the Bible of things that are unusual and beyond the capability of man, often mysterious or difficult things.
When Abraham’s elderly wife, Sarah, laughed at the idea that she would bear a child, God responded to her, “Is anything too difficult (pele’) for the Lord?” (Gen. 18:14).
In fact, the Bible only uses pele’ for God’s deeds and words, never for human accomplishments. This not only describes what He does, it describes who He is. He, Himself, is the wonder!
2. COUNSELOR
“Counselor.” In its historical usage, the word pictured a king giving counsel to his people.
Isaiah 11:1–2 NKJV
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:30 NKJV
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—
Matthew 13:54 NKJV
When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
Colossians 2:3 NKJV
in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
3. MIRACULOUS COUNSEL
This literally translates, “a wonder of a counselor.” What does this name mean?
He is the type of counselor, that councils you in such a way to take you to the miraculous.
The type of counsel that God gives, the results far exceeds your expectations
Jesus will counsel us and guide us in such a way that that leads in such a way that leads to miraculous supernatural beyond your natural expectations results.
Psalm 32:7–8 NKJV
You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.
Selah 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.
He can help us in ways that go far beyond our ability to understand or our own limitations.
