CULTURE – HONOR
We gladly submit to God’s authority and those placed above us. Our honor sets the highest standard, as we value and recognize the God-given gifts each person brings.
Embracing the call to honor aligns you with God’s value system and positions you to receive all He has for you.
2 John 8 NKJV
Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.
1. DANGEROUS PATTERNS
Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
2. HONOR AFFECTS TWO REALMS
At the judgment seat of Christ, we will be examined by the lord Jesus to see how we lived this life as believers.B. This life
1 Timothy 4:8 NKJV
For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
Live in such a way to get the full reward in this life!!
Proverbs 11:31 NLT
If the righteous are rewarded here on earth, what will happen to wicked sinners?
3. REWARDS IN LIFE
Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief…
Look back at verse 2
Mark 6:2–4 NKJV
And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him. 4 But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.”
A valuing of something, weighty & precious.
To esteem, to regard, to respect. Favorable, something precious, to show appreciation, to respect.
If you speak this word to a Greek man he thinks of something valuable weighty precious such as gold.
To understand us understand honor let’s look at the opposite.
Dishonor- means to not show respect or value, to treat as common to treat as ordinary, to think of something, light common, and easily done away with such as a vapor.
Honor can be displayed in deed in word in thought but all true honor originates from the heart
Isaiah 29:13 NKJV
Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
Paralytic healed
Luke 5:17 NKJV
Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
