1 Corinthians 2:4 KJV
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s
wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power
1 Corinthians 12:1
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:
1 Corinthians 12:2-3
2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however
you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the
Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except
by the Holy Spirit.
The gifts will always uplift the Lordship of Jesus, not the Lordship of some man
they will not attract attention to themselves but rather to Christ, also.
1. Don’t Operate Alone
Lacking understanding many people try to operate a gift without the Holy Spirit.
Perhaps the gift has been manifested in their life on occasion and they think I
have it now, and I can operate it at will. However when they do, they
inadvertently get into trouble. They are throwing themselves wide-open to
Satanic deception.
1 Corinthians 12:4-5
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are differences of
ministries, but the same Lord.
Diversities of Gifts
1 Corinthians 12:6 KJV
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
Diversities simply means different. In other words, Paul was saying there are
different gifts but the same Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 12:7
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
Manifestation – demonstrations displays, exhibitions, presentation. Sign
evidence, proof.
1 Corinthians 12:8-11
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of
knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these worketh that one and the self same spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
2. God Is Not Using Just One Person
Three categories of gifts.
The simplest way to describe these nine gifts is that:
– Three of them say something
– Three of them do something
– Three of them reveal something.
The three gifts that say something (the Utterance Gifts)
• Prophecy
• Divers kinds of tongues
• Interpretation of tongues
The three gifts that do something are (the Power Gifts)
• The gift of faith.
• Working of miracles.
• Gifts of healing’s.
The three gifts that reveal something are (the Revelation Gifts)
• The Word of Wisdom
• The Word of Knowledge
• Discerning of Spirits
Each of these three categories are listed in order of their importance.
1 Corinthians 12:31 NKJV
But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
