Follow Me | Father’s Day 2024

Notes

“Of all nature’s gifts to the human race, what is sweeter to a man than his children?”

– Cicero

Luke 5:4–7 NLT

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” 5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” 6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! 7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.

Matthew 4:19–20 NKJV
Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him. If you want your children to see God as their father let them see God in their father! The most important thing that we do in life may not be what we do, but who we raise!

1 Corinthians 11:1 NKJV
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

Psalm 112:1–4 NLT
Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. 2 Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. 3 They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever. 4 Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.

“What we expose our children to helps determine what they will become. My father didn’t tell me how to life; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”

– Clarence Budington Kelland

Romans 8:14–17 NKJV

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

“God made everything else but man “after its kind”‘ – that is, according to the purpose and destiny he envisaged for it. But he made man in His own image. Man is patterned on God! He was made to represent God – in created, human form.”

– Sinclair B. Ferguson

Romans 12:1-2 MSG
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

If you want your children to see God as their father let them see God in their father!
