The Gift of the Word of Wisdom:
The supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose
and plan in the mind and will of God. It is a divine communication, conveyed by
the Holy Spirit to the believer.
A Word of Wisdom is only a fragment of the wisdom of God, given for a specific
purpose concerning a future event.

Definition: The Gift Of The Word of Knowledge
A supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning facts in the mind of
God concerning people places or things.
Always facts about the present or the past.

The Gift of the Discerning of Spirits

1 Corinthians 12:1-6
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same
Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the
working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to
another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each
one individually as He wills.

The Gift of the Discerning of Spirits is not:

  • The ability to discern faults or failures in others. Believers and unbelievers can do that and it is considered being judgemental or critical. It is forbidden in the scriptures,
  • Matthew 7:11
“Judge not, that ye be not judged.”
  • The “gift of discernment.” Sometimes people will know things by the Spirit of
God and call it the gift of discernment, which is unscriptural. It is actually a word of knowledge in operation.
  • Just the discerning of devils or evil spirits.
  • Not a kind of spiritual mind reading, mental, or enhanced psychological insight.
  • A gift you can operate without the unction of the Spirit of God.

Definition Discerning of Spirits is:

  • The discerning of spirits gives supernatural insight into the spirit world.
  • The discerning of spirits is a supernatural revelation of the unseen world.

We cannot, with our natural eyes, see a spirit; but if God gives to us this gift, then we can look beyond the veil and see into the realm of the Spirit. It is not simply apply the discerning of wicked spirits only; nor does it state that is earning a good spirits only; it must therefore, I mean both good and bad, whatever the Spirit of God wishes to reveal.

The discerning of spirits has to do with an entire class of spirits:

Good spirits:
Discerning the similitude of God
The risen Christ,
The Holy Spirit,
Angelic beings/angelic activity

Bad spirits:
devils, demons, Satan himself
Human spirits
good and evil tendencies

Example Discerning of Spirits from the OLD TESTAMENT:

God allowed Moses to see into the realm of spirits.

Exodus 33:20-23
But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”21And
the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. 23Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

The King of Syria

2 Kings 6:14-17
Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those
who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Discerning of Spirits from the NEW TESTAMENT:

John on the Isle of Patmos.

Revelation 4:1-5
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” 2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an
emerald. 4Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Luke 1:26–33 NKJV
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee
named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the
angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what
manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid,
Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in
your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be
great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

NOTE: Without even having the discerning of spirits in manifestation, if we know the Word of God and if we are walking in the Spirit, we will have an inward witness if someone is operating by a wrong spirit. The Holy Spirit on the inside of us, in our spirits, will warn us if we are at all sensitive to Him.
