Notes
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Luke 18:1-2
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
Ephesians 6:17-18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-19
Be joyful always; pray continually without ceasing; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 16:19-20
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven.
1. WHY PRAY
God is only as sovereign as his word.
Sovereign: Paramount; supreme. Having supreme rank or power. Independent: a sovereign state. Excellent.
Psalm 115:16
The heaven, even the heavens are the Lords: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.”
In other word, God made man to rule the visible world through the invisible realm by bringing the Kingdom of Heaven and God’s will to earth through Prayer.
2. THE FALL
Then the fall came. Man sinned against God and disobeyed God’s command not to eat the fruit of ONE tree thereby giving Satan legal authority in the earth (Gen 3:6).
3. TEACH US TO PRAY
Luke 11:1
And it came to pass, that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray…”
Matthew 6:6
But when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut the door, pray to thy Father which in secret; and they Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
4. Get Smart
The disciples became smart. They saw Jesus rise up a great while before the day, and went to a solitary place to pray.
Day starts around 5:00 am Jesus prayed around 3:00 in the morning.
A PERSON OF PRAYER:
- Knows that prayer is a sacred trust from God.
- Understands his or her purpose in life as God’s priest and intercessor for the world.
- Has a relationship of trust with the heavenly Father and desires the world to experience the power of His presence and life.
- Knows that the will of God will flow forth from heaven to earth only through their prayers and the prayers of all of God’s people.
